How a custom piece moves from first conversation to finished ring

There is no fixed clock on this process. Some couples arrive with a clear idea and a stone in mind; others start from a rough direction and work outward. What stays the same is the order of the steps, and the fact that nothing gets cast until you have seen the stone and approved the model.

  1. Step one

    The first conversation

We start with what you actually want the ring to do: a proposal, an anniversary, a piece you wear every day. You describe the shape, the feel, the budget range you are working inside, and any reference you have saved. No catalog is pushed at you at this stage. The point is to narrow the direction before anyone talks about numbers on a grading report.

  2. Step two

    Stone selection

Lab-grown diamonds are compared side by side using their grading reports, so cut, color, and clarity are read as written rather than guessed from a photograph. Each stone is traceable to its growth lab. If you want to see a stone loose before it is set, that is arranged here, and it is usually the moment a decision becomes easy.

  3. Step three

    CAD modeling

The chosen direction becomes a digital preview. You see proportions, band width, and how the stone sits in the setting before any metal is cast. Changes at this stage are normal and expected, and they cost far less than changes made after casting. Nothing moves to production until you sign off on the model.

  4. Step four

    Sizing and fit

Finger size shifts with temperature and time of day, so we measure more than once and talk through how the band should sit. Plain bands can usually be resized later within a reasonable range. Settings with stones running around the circumference are harder to adjust, and that trade-off is worth knowing before you commit to a design.

  5. Step five

    Consultation and delivery

In-person consultations take place in Palermo, where you can handle the piece and check the fit on the hand. If you are not in Buenos Aires, protected shipping covers the rest of Argentina and international delivery is available. Either way, the stone is shown to you before it is set, not after.

Timing depends on the design, the stone you choose, and how many rounds of revision the model needs. We would rather tell you that honestly than promise a date we cannot hold. Reach the studio at team@icebergdiamonds.com or +54 11 5817-7075 to book a fitting or request a quote.

Reaching the studio while your piece is in progress

Questions usually come up between steps, not before them. If you are midway through stone selection, waiting on a CAD preview, or sorting out a resize after the ring has been worn, the fastest route is a direct message or a call during studio hours. Nothing here is routed through an account or a ticket queue.

For anything that needs a longer answer, the written guides cover the recurring topics: how a grading report is structured, how sizing behaves across seasons, and what a setting change involves.

Clarifications before you commit to a piece

A few points come up in almost every first conversation, and they are worth stating plainly so nothing is left to interpretation later. These are the working terms the studio applies to custom work, stone sourcing, and delivery.

What "certified" means here

Every lab-grown stone we work with is graded by an independent laboratory for cut, color, and clarity, and the report travels with the stone. The certificate describes the stone itself, not the finished ring, so the setting and metal are documented separately.

Traceability and its limits

Each stone can be traced back to the growth lab that produced it. That record covers origin and grading. It does not extend to the mining history of any mined stones you may already own or bring in for comparison.

CAD previews are not the final piece

A CAD model shows proportion, profile, and how the stone will sit before any metal is cast. It is a design preview, not a photograph of the finished ring. Small variations in finish and hand-polishing are normal and expected.

Sizing and resizing

Finger size shifts with temperature and time of day, so a measurement taken once is a starting point. Plain bands can usually be adjusted later within a reasonable range. Bands set with stones around the full circumference are much harder to resize and are best measured carefully up front.

Consultations and shipping

In-person consultations take place in Palermo. If you are not in Buenos Aires, protected shipping covers the rest of Argentina and international delivery. You can see the stone before it is set, whether that happens at a fitting or through the shipping process.

Guides are in Spanish

Our written guides on lab-grown versus mined stones, care routines, and reading a grading report are published in Spanish. They are written to be read without a technical background, and they are separate from the consultation itself.

If something in your project falls outside these terms, it is better to raise it early. Reach the studio at team@icebergdiamonds.com or call +54 11 5817-7075.
